Last week, I went on my usual walk in the local park. It is a place that I have been going to for such a long time, yet only within the last two years have I realised that it has had a massive impact on my life.

It is a place where I go to find quiet, peace and calm. It is a place where I go to walk and chat with my husband. It is a place where deep feelings come out and move through the body. It is a place where I go to see wildlife. It is a place where I go to connect to the trees, earth and water. It is a place where I have been to sit under the trees and draw. It is a place where I have been whilst moving through unexpected and strong emotions. It is a place where I go to renew the energy in my whole body.

This woodland holds a special place in my heart and it always brings clarity, awe and wonder.

In return for all the healing she provides me with, I regularly go and honour the land, water, trees, plants and animals that reside there. I leave gifts around the place. It has felt like the right thing to do. I have offered up feathers, flowers, herbs, song, food for the animals and cacao many times, with a short prayer and a blessing full of gratitude and love.

When we connect with the land, it is a two-way exchange of energy. We heal it and it heals us. The Law of Oneness states everything is connected, we are not separate and our actions impact the whole. We have to embrace this connection by acknowledging the interconnectedness of everything in the universe and we must take responsibility and have empathy towards all living things.

Many of our ancestors were the guardians and gatekeepers of this land and it was their job to protect and look after the land, plants and animals. We must continue this practice. We must nurture and nourish not only ourselves but the land and animals around us.

I will continue to show reverence and gratitude to the land and waterways. To every tree and plant. To every living thing.

How do you connect with the land, water, trees, plants and animals?

With love

Emma xx
